Volunteer Opportunities

Caring, dedicated individuals ages 14 years and older are needed to assist SPUR lessons. Responsibilities range from grooming to leading to cleaning tack. No prior horse experience is necessary.

Volunteer Roles
Volunteers assist with therapeutic horseback riding lessons as leaders and sidewalkers. Arriving 20 to 25 minutes before the start of a lesson, volunteers groom and prepare the horse. During the lesson volunteers assist as leaders or sidewalkers. The amount of assistance required varies based upon each student's needs. Volunteers are also welcome to assist with daily barn chores such as grooming, sweeping, cleaning tack, etc.

Volunteer Requirements

Attendance at a volunteer training workshop is mandatory to begin volunteering. The workshop will cover all aspects of volunteering with the program, including tacking, grooming, leading and sidewalking. Upon completion of the workshop, new volunteers will be matched with seasoned volunteers for their first session.

Volunteer Recognition
Without the dedicated individuals who volunteer with our program, we would not be all that we are. Each year we honor two individuals, one adult and one junior volunteer, as volunteers of the year. The names of honored volunteers are inscribed on a plaque that is displayed in the waiting area for all to see.

Letters verifying volunteer hours are available upon request with a minimum of two weeks prior notice.
